Port Shepstone, South Africa

Port Shepstone is a holiday town on the South Coast of KwaZulu-Natal, about 110 km south of Durban. The nearby Banana Beach Holiday Resort will host the Living Church of God for the Feast of Tabernacles 2017. It is located on the shores of the warm Indian Ocean just a few kilometres north of Port Shepstone. A mere 50 meter scenic walk and you are on our golden beach. Lush with wild banana trees, indigenous vegetation and a variety of birdlife, Banana Beach also offers a tidal pool, lagoon and excellent surfing conditions.

You will find many opportunities for family activities, including swimming in a beach protected by shark nets and supervised by lifeguards, snorkeling around rock pools, or fishing from the beach or nearby rocks.  You can also participate in dolphin- and whale-watching, beach horseback rides, deep-sea fishing and scuba diving. Shopping opportunities can be found at Port Shepstone, Shelly Beach or Hibberdene.

Tourist attractions in the local area include the Pure Venom Reptile and Snake Park, the Croc World in Scottburgh, the Riverbend Crocodile Farm in Ramsgate and the Port Shepstone Lighthouse at the mouth of the Umzikulu River. The Pure Venom Reptile and Snake Park is the largest reptile farm in Africa with indigenous and exotic species. The Croc World boasts a few hundred Nile crocodiles, as well as numerous snakes, tortoises, water birds, flamingos, caracals, jackals, meerkats and raptors. There are various other attractions in the local area as well.

Accommodation consists of a limited number of chalets and rondavels inside the Banana Beach Holiday Resort. Alternative accommodation in the area consists of holiday flats, holiday resorts and guest houses close to the beachfront.

There is a small local shop and restaurant within walking distance of the Banana Beach Resort. One can stock up on supplies or find shopping malls and a larger variety of restaurants in Port Shepstone (+/- 10km) and Shelly Beach (+/-20km).

The Port Shepstone site is easily accessible by flying to Durban International Airport and then taking the scenic drive of about 140 km down to Port Shepstone.
